Susan Estrich—a liberal who has been mugged, uh, randomly patted down

A personal account of what it’s like in today’s airports. But what is worse than the wasted time, the inconvenience, the hassle of being made to step aside, take off one’s shoes and belt, questioned and all the rest of it, not to mention the expense of paying for all those security people and equipment—what’s worse than all that is the indignity to ourselves as a people. How can we expect to win a war, when we are treated like this and accept it like sheep?
