We didn’t have enough troops, says Bremer

Paul Bremer, former proconsul of Iraq, has been saying that the U.S. did not have enough troops in Iraq at the beginning of the occupation and throughout. This led to our failure to stop the looting which in turn established a climate of disorder from which the occupation never recovered. Bremer says he repeatedly made the same points to the administration when he was in office in Iraq, but that his advice was ignored.

Which brings to mind Rumsfeld’s frivolous reply when he was questioned about the looting: “That’s the price of freedom.” He should have been cashiered when he said that.

Now see the dismissive, contemptuous responses to Bremer’s statement at the main pro-Bush site, Lucianne.com (only available online for a couple of days). Among these Bush worshippers, no criticism of the president is to be entertained for even a moment.
