Dean redux

I just saw a replay of Howard Dean’s appearance at the Democratic convention Tuesday night. Before he launched into his speech proper, which was utterly bland and ennervated, he gave off, in response to the wild cheers of the crowd, those sparks of vitality and excitement and pugnacioius anger that had truly made him the natural expression of the Democratic party this year, and he certainly would have been their nominee, had he not been—and as he seemingly went out of his way to demonstrate himself to be—a complete loon.
