How America’s vast wealth feeds the left

Large corporations’ staggering largesse toward the NAACP, a leftist race-hating organization, reminds us of one of the enabling conditions of modern liberalism. Modern liberalism does not only result from the general conditions of modern society in which the ability to satisfy more and more desires leads to the idea that the state ought to guarantee the equal satisfaction of all desires. Modern liberalism is also directly nurtured and fed by the sheer excess wealth of modern society. People who have lots of extra money want to “do good” with it. But having no political or moral formation other than that inculcated in them by liberalism itself, they readily hand their wealth over to a vast array of liberal organizations and causes which are most skilled at promising good works, but which in many cases are quite destructive.

Fear and foolishness make a powerful combination. American companies are foolish and shortsighted in many ways. They also live in fear of having federal affirmative action enforcers sicced on them by such as the NAACP. They are paying protection money. It is of a piece with the amicus curiae briefs so many of them filed supporting Michigan in the affirmative action cases. When the inevitable shakedown suits come alleging racial discrimination in hiring or firing, these companies can point to their amicus briefs and NAACP donations to show they have the right attitudes. It might be good for a few million off the settlement. HRS

In connection with Mr. Sutherland’s points, here is an excerpt from my pamphlet, Erasing America:

It is no exaggeration to say that blacks have created a virtual sub-nation in this country, a quasi-official ethno-state whose permanent mode of interaction with the larger society is the use of racism charges and other kinds of racial intimidation to extract ever-greater concessions in the form of transfer payments, “diversity” quotas, undeserved promotions of blacks to jobs from which they cannot be fired, and the dismantling of law and order. Indeed, in their successful practice of massive extortion backed by the ever-present threat of mayhem, the relation of major black leaders to white America is not unlike that of Attila the Hun to the late Roman empire.
[Footnote] While Attila is popularly thought of as a conqueror and marauder, in reality he was the greatest shake-down artist in history. Much as Jesse Jackson wins vast racial concessions from nervous corporations eager to avoid any trouble with blacks, Attila during his twenty year reign in central Europe extracted incalculable sums in gold from the doddering Roman empire as the price for not invading it, a threat he continually renewed in order to win ever larger pay-offs.

Mr. Auster’s quote from his pamphlet (where can I get it?) is excellent.

As to what an ordinary citizen might do: Every penny of that shakedown money belongs to the stockholders. From time to time a stockholder will propose a measure, to be voted on via the proxies sent out shortly before the annual meeting, to prohibit a company from donating to political causes. Such resolutions never pass, but a determined effort can cause a big enough yes vote to embarrass the management. This misuse of the owners’ money is particularly egregious—owing to the enormous amount as well as to its nature—to give hope that this time it could pass in a few companies.

For some reason the publisher, American Immigration Control Foundation, hasn’t put the book up at their website for ordering, so you need to send $5.00 to:

See the latest column by Sam Francis on vdare.com. Reparations for deported Mexicans are on the way. The large corporations will be forking over protection money, one presumes. Where do you think George W. Bush will stand on this issue?

David asks where do we think GW Bush will stand on the Mexican reparations scam. My prediction is that he’ll remain true to form and cave in to all demands - perhaps while giving a Cinco de Mayo speech saying how Mexicans need to assimilate and become good Americans.

I just sent an order to AICF, plus a donation, for Mr. Auster’s latest book-Erasing America.
