Not-so-nice Emily

When is Schadenfreude permissible? Emily’s List, a group in Washington that raises money for pro-abortion female Democratic candidates, is targeting Democratic men like Representatives Dingell and Bonior using negative ads and personal accusations. Left-wing bigots don’t always keep their bigotry properly focused, it seems.

“Never interrupt your opponent when he’s making a mistake.” — Napolean

Conservatives tend to think that the Left is a concentrated power bloc that always works in unity. They do so with good reasons, since liberals usually march in lockstep in opposing sanity. Yet there is endless infighting and sparring among left-wing groups, including umpteen denominations of feminism and the famous Commie splinter groups.

Sometimes people get tired of one debate or another and announce they’ve resigned from the left. These people are often bounced from the lefty union and called neoconservative, even though they maintain the same gestalt.

The Podhoretz/Kristol story is well known, but the process carries on. That Andrew Sullivan is the most popular “conservative” Internet writer is case in point. He spun from the trendy pseudo-centrism of TNR. Even stranger is Christopher Hitchens, who has stopped calling himself a leftist.
