Hemings claim denied

I hadn’t known that historians had turned against the Hemings paternity claims: “Jefferson progeny club votes out Hemings’ kin”.

I was at Monticello recently and there they tell you it’s true. I thought at the time they didn’t have much choice if they want to avoid trouble.

I don’t understand what exactly has changed in the facts of the case. When the story came out in 1998, it was already clear that the progenitor of one of Sally Heming’s children could have been any number of Jefferson’s male relatives, not necessarily Jefferson himself. Maybe it took a while for people to realize that a possibility was not the same as a fact.
